I have set up my fathers xmas present - an xp system! The modem dialup
option for the password keeps on coming up with the wrong one. I think that
I have checked the correct places but the password offered onthe dialogue
box is different to his - about twice as long.
I have done all the xp updates and security thingies. Havre checked with
AdAware and a virus checker.
Is there anything else obvious that I should check please? He now has to
delete the offered password blobs and type his new/correct one in. It
doesn't save it for the next time. I have even deleted all accounts and
manually set the main one up again!!!
Thanks folks

Have you tried using the "wrong" one? WinXP intentionally shows a longer
password length to make guessing the password more difficult.

Nothing is wrong. WinXP inserts the same number of *s whether the
password is 5 or 5000 characters long in order to mask the length to
provide additional security.

phoned Tiscali and they said that the problems was simply not that the
password/username were wrong but that we were trying to connect from my home
phone line rather than the authorised one where my father lives and where
the account is set up from!
